Meet Lucy Strang | Product Owner

Lucy Strang is a Product Owner at MyNewTerm, where she helps shape the platform based on what schools and trusts actually need. From designing new features to testing functionality and working closely with the dev and ops teams, she ensures every improvement adds real value for users.

With a background as both a teacher and a fashion buyer (yes, really!), Lucy brings creativity, structure, and a user-first mindset to everything she does.

She originally joined MyNewTerm as an account manager and has grown into her current role—proof of the team’s commitment to nurturing talent from within. Just don’t ask her to work without snacks or her trusty Notes app list!

What does a typical day in your role look like?
My days really vary, but each week I am generally designing new features, testing and managing features currently being worked on by our development team, working closely with customers and the operations team to establish what we need to look at developing next and managing our bug fixing process.

How did you get started in this industry?
Before joining MyNewTerm, I worked as a primary school teacher for 4 years. I was looking to leave teaching and found the job advertised on a job site aimed at former teachers. I originally joined as an account manager but my role has evolved over the years – one of the things I love about working here are the many opportunities to adapt your career and grow with the company.

What do you find most rewarding about your job?
I love the fact that the majority of the new features developed at MyNewTerm are requested directly from customers. Being able to plan, design and support with the development of something which improves customer experience is incredibly rewarding.

What’s your go-to productivity hack or tool?
At work, I like to have a good supply of snacks! For home, I make a weekly list in the Notes app on my phone that I can tick off as I go. I am incredibly forgetful so a list is the only way to remember everything I need to get done during the week!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
There is no such thing as a stupid question – I would always rather someone ask the smallest of questions if something needs clarifying. Likewise, I will always ask questions to make sure I fully understand something.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I have a fashion degree and spent the first 3 years of my working life as a clothing buyer for Next and George. Nowadays, I prefer to limit the purchases to just myself!

If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be? (Internally)
Dale – he has the gift of the gab, and I’d love to be able to work the sales magic!

Curious about how MyNewTerm continues to evolve?
Lucy’s always working behind the scenes to shape a better, smarter platform. Got feedback or ideas? Our product team would love to hear from you—just drop us a message!
