Meet Damaris Karanja | Marketing Executive

As Marketing Executive at MyNewTerm, Damaris keeps things moving across all corners of content and communication. From planning social media and writing email campaigns to dreaming up blog ideas or jumping into team meetings, no two days are quite the same — and she wouldn’t have it any other way. With a diary in one hand and a cup of tea in the other, she brings creativity, clarity, and consistency to everything she touches.

Having joined the company four years ago as a Marketing Assistant, Damaris has grown with the business, driven by a passion for meaningful content and real impact.

What does a typical day in your role look like?
Wellll, where do I begin – no two days are ever really the same! I usually start by writing out my to-do list in my weekly diary, with my top priorities right at the top. Then it’s time for my first cup of tea (an absolute must!) before I start working through my list, one task at a time. My day could include anything from scheduling social media content to creating email content to brainstorming blog ideas or jumping into team meetings. It’s busy, but I love the variety!

How did you get started in this industry?
I’ve always loved being creative and finding ways to connect with people, so marketing felt like a natural fit. I studied Event Management at the University of Bedfordshire, and marketing was hands down my favourite module. When MyNewTerm advertised a Marketing Assistant role, I went for it—and four years later, here I am as a Marketing Executive!

What do you find most rewarding about your job?
Seeing the impact of my work! Whether it’s more engagement on a post, a school saying they love our content and want to do a partnership, or just knowing we’re helping people find jobs in education—it’s honestly such a fulfilling feeling.

What’s your go-to productivity hack or tool?
Diary and pen—old school, I know! I write a weekly to-do list with my top 3 priorities right at the top. It keeps me focused and helps me not get overwhelmed.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
1. “Change is uncomfortable, but that’s growth.”
2. “You are your biggest hype man/cheerleader.”

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I’m such a homebody. Give me my oversized oodie, a glass of wine, and a chick flick on my corner sofa, and I’m in my happy place!

If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be? (internally)
It has to be THE chief — Yemi! The way he gets things done in the coding world and still manages to crack jokes like it’s nothing? Huge respect. I’d love to see what a day in his shoes looks like.
