Meet Joseph Whittle | Software Engineer

Joseph is a Full Stack Developer at MyNewTerm, where his days are spent coding, debugging, and collaborating with the team, as well as occasionally providing technical support to schools and trusts. His journey into development started with a passion for video games, which led him into game development at university before transitioning into web development and joining MyNewTerm.

For Joseph, the most rewarding part of his job is solving tricky problems and then seeing users benefit from the solutions he and the team create. His approach to productivity is all about breaking tasks down and doing research upfront, so he always has a clear picture before diving in.

What does a typical day in your role look like?

Mostly Debugging & programming, occasionally providing technical support on call to schools/trusts. Quite a bit of team collaboration.

How did you get started in this industry?
Originally interested in coding from playing video games and by thus game development. I specialised in game development at university, then completed a training scheme in web development to transition from the game industry to the web industry, and then applied for a full-stack developer role at mynewterm.

What do you find most rewarding about your job?
Finding solutions to interesting and obscure problems and seeing users actually use solutions we make.

What’s your go-to productivity hack or tool?
I try to break tasks down/research tasks as much as pos so I have a mental picture of what I am actually trying to achieve before doing anything.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
“This too shall pass”

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
Not a clue, honestly

If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be?
I think maybe Ben – He codes but does it in an adjacent field to me, so it would be interesting to see how different his role is compared to mine.

Curious about how MyNewTerm continues to evolve?
Joseph is always working behind the scenes to shape a better, smarter platform. Got feedback or ideas? Our product team would love to hear from you—just drop us a message!
