Meet Ndidi Abiagam | Software Engineer

Ndidi Abiagam is a key part of the development team at MyNewTerm, bringing a long-standing passion for problem-solving through technology. With early roots in coding and hands-on experience from internships abroad, they’ve built a career focused on creating smart, effective solutions that support our mission to simplify school recruitment.

For Ndidi, the most rewarding part of the job is seeing the real-world impact of their work. Whether it’s streamlining a process or improving a user’s experience, it’s all about making things better.

What does a typical day in your role look like?
Well, it’s a mix of milky tea, code, and creative problem-solving. It usually starts with stand-up meetings—syncing with the team and pretending I’m fully awake. Then it’s deep-dive time: writing code, reviewing PRs, and occasionally fixing bugs that seem to have a personality of their own. Somewhere in between, Spotify playlists, and maybe too much cake. Every day is a puzzle, but that’s what keeps it interesting!”

How did you get started in this industry?
It all started from my intern days at a computer services firm abroad. I was an intern Computer Engineer in the early 90s. I was drawn to a strong desire to solve problems with technology at a younger age. I remember that I used to write code on sheets of paper and bought my first computer with financial gifts.

Had my first solo gig as a Web developer who worked as a contractor for the Government’s maritime shipping sector and was involved in the redevelopment of their website and intranet. From then on, I never looked back.

What do you find most rewarding about your job?
The positive feedback from people who have benefited from my work. In other words, solving people’s problems with technology.

Whether it’s solving a tricky problem, brainstorming ideas, or just making someone’s day a bit easier, that “aha!” moment? Gold. Pure gold. Plus, I get to relearn everything all the time.

What’s your go-to productivity hack or tool?
My ultimate productivity sidekick is PHPStorm (work software) with all the right extensions —it’s like turning your editor into a Swiss Army knife of code wizardry.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
It’s actually two advice in one. And it is “Whatever you do, always keep it simple and don’t settle for less”

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
My commitment to everything

If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be? (Internally)
That would be Damaris, because as a Marketing Executive, she gets to be creative in her work. This includes graphic designs of flyers, pop-up stands and newsletters.
